Brief Overview of Services
The Fagioli Group specializes in worldwide transport and logistics as well as heavy lift transport and engineering and door-to-door project cargo shipping. The group owns and operates an extensive fleet of conventional and specialized heavy lift transport equipment, including all necessary accessory equipment to carry out any foreseeable heavy lift transport. In addition, Fagioli operates medium range cranes and proprietary gantry lift systems. The maritime operations include Group owned specialist heavy transport barges, river barges and self-geared, roll-on/roll-off ships.
Transport and logistic services, as well as engineering activities, are achieved 'in-house' through connected series of computer networks and services. CAD facilities, email and web sites are provided to each of our commercial and operations offices located in various cities throughout the globe. Approximately 300 full-time employees monitor and respond to market demands with economically sound and technically accurate answers in a timely manner.
Fagioli continues to successfully operate in various construction sectors: energy, chemical, petrochemical, offshore, industrial machinery, shipwright, etc. In each sector, Fagioli has a dedicated team that has accumulated experience in its specific field and who follows each logistic step through the transport and/or erection scheme in close cooperation with the Client.
Logistics and Engineering
In every transport there are inevitably some logistics and/or engineering activities involved. Fagioli's logistics team concentrates on organizing the various activities required to transport material from the point of origin to the final destination without interruption or delay. This normally involves the pre-positioning of personnel, equipment, spare parts and consumable materials prior to the actual transport and erection.
On a case by case basis, Fagioli studies each transport to determine the most technically and economically sound solution. The engineering department, with help of surveying teams, designs the transport convoy or method of transport and erection according to the job-specific parameters. Depending on their findings, specialized support devices other than 'standard' saddles may be required to conduct a trouble-free transport. In this event, the client is immediately informed of any specialized equipment modifications and, at the client's request, Fagioli assists in their fabrication or otherwise does so in-house.
Studies of river and sea transport include the detailed study of acceleration forces and stability calculations. Load spreading, both aboard ship and on ground, as well as sea-fastening requirements, are determined by the engineering staff.
The Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT)
Fagioli introduces the next generation in self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT). The system is based on two types of transport units having 4 or 6 axle lines, on propulsion units having engines of variable power, and on cabins for the operators. Each of these units are totally modular and can be coupled together to realize many different transport configurations.
The SPMT modules can be coupled rigidly together on the front or on the side to adapt the platform to that of its load. Due to the mechanically independent axles and to their electronically controlled hydraulic steering system, the resulting configuration can be steered as a single transporter by an operator using a remote control unit.
Every unit is CE and TUV certified and is provided with identification that allow them to be driven on public roads.
The unique qualities and flexibility of the SPMT, combined with own lifting equipment, gives us the opportunity to perform works not possible in the past.
River and Maritime Transport
In the majority of European countries as well as abroad, certain items cannot be transported by road or rail due to their extraordinary dimensions and/or their weights which exceed allowable limits or actual physical restraints. To avoid the need of shipping the item in sections with the additional time and costs associated with field assembly, the items are often shipped on river and ocean-going barges. Many rivers, however, present their own particular problems of low draft and/or air draft. Specialized group-owned barges, including those with elevator platforms, assist in roll-on and roll-off operations which are often the best possible solution.
Additionally, once the cargo arrives at the nearest accessible sea port, it is important the continuing voyage is uninterrupted. Specialized heavy lift shipping, both self-geared and roll-on/roll-off, is arranged and closely monitored to avoid any possible delays. The Fagioli Group owns and operates its own heavy lift shipping fleet.
At the unloading port, the construction site is often not immediately accessible. For this, Fagioli arranges the continuing voyage to the site. Again, this often entails fluvial transports and in many cases involves special reinforcement of existing equipment to support extra-heavy loads.
Marine surveying and maritime engineering is an integral part of Fagioli's services.
Door-to-Door Transport and International Project Forwarding
The services offered by the Fagioli organization include, among others, the complete door-to-door transport of project cargo and international freight forwarding. Many major projects (and some minor ones as well) procure their equipment from various sources widely spread across different continents. Fagioli's project cargo and forwarding specialists are well aware of the logistics and coordination involved in organizing the pick-up, transport and delivery tasks which face them and are ready to exercise their experience in this field to ensure that all the material arrives at the final destination in good order and on time.
Integrated networking services allow each project coordinator to assign various portions of the projects to different operatives, who individually monitor their portions. The company's traffic department in conjunction with the project coordinator keeps abreast of cargo status, providing current information on material condition and whereabouts. The use of company owned containers, normal trailers and specialized transport means up to and including roll-on/roll-off operations ensures that the material is delivered no matter what logistic difficulty may face them.
International transport also involves appropriate documentation to minimize and eliminate any possible delays during customs operations. Close tracking of requisite documents ensures smooth customs clearances and further provides the receiver with all necessary documentation upon arrival of the cargo at the final destination.
International Heavy Lift Transport, Assembly and Erection
The Fagioli Group's heavy lift specialists concentrate on projects, or those portions of projects followed elsewhere within the group, which deal with oversized and over-weight cargo that cannot be transported utilizing conventional methods. Early in the initial stages of many projects, heavy lift engineers work closely with the client and their suppliers in order to establish the best possible solution for the transport weights and dimensions including all additional accessories required; i.e., saddles, stiffeners, etc.
Site and route surveys are conducted to determine the most feasible solution for the transports. In many developing countries, the infrastructure may require significant modifications and upgrades in order to effect the transport. If the client, in conjunction with the local authorities, agree to the modifications and upgrades, the group's engineers work with local contractors to ensure that the modifications are made to specifications in accordance with client authorizations and safety requirements.
Of further note is the group's experience involving various types of transport. Depending on feasibility and the construction schedule, road, rail, river and sea transports are the most common. However, the Fagioli Group is also very active with the airlift of heavy transports. The logistics involved in the co-ordination of the various activities are closely followed by the operations department which ensures that all the various phases are executed on time in such a manner to avoid any possible delay or shortage.
Emergency Service
At major Italian airports, Fagioli provides emergency services in the form of emergency frames and transport vehicles to lift and remove to a safe location any disabled passenger airliner. The frames were specifically designed and built by Fagioli to fit under the planes and support the weight at manufacturers' designated lifting points.
Fagioli also has formed a fleet of vehicles which are set aside from normal service and devoted solely to emergency and disaster relief operations. Water, food, clothing, shelter and medical supplies, as well as heavy equipment, must get to those in need as fast as possible. With this in mind, designated personnel remain on call to respond immediately to any emergency situation. The vehicles themselves are maintained in the highest state of readiness including all necessary documents which allow immediate transit across international borders.
Material Handling and Storage
The Fagioli group has strategically positioned several warehouses throughout Italy and has access to numerous others around the world for intermediary storage of in-transit project cargo and for general distribution of other goods. The handling and warehousing of goods is controlled tightly by personnel especially trained in this type of activity. Upon receipt, material is inspected for any possible in-transit damage that may have occurred and the client is informed immediately. Any special storage requirements (i.e., ambient temperature, nitrogen blanket, humidity, etc.) are strictly adhered to.
In some cases, the client will also request additional packaging of the material for the subsequent transport. That is, the material may require packaging in order to protect it for its continuing voyage. In such cases, our personnel will determine exactly what requirements are necessary depending on the material, the type of transport and the exposure to the elements it will encounter. All packing is then marked appropriately to ensure that other handlers use the utmost care during the items' transport.
